GLOUCESTER CITY - The Group 2 softball state title has resided on 2nd Avenue in Haddon Heights for the past two seasons.

This year, there will be a new Group 2 state champion. The Gloucester City High School softball team knocked off the Garnets, 1-0, in the South Jersey Group 2 final last Saturday.

Lady Lions ace and Holy Family signee Olivia George and Central Connecticut State commit Gracie Granate battled in a pitching duel. Both pitchers were lights out and allowed just seven combined hits between the two teams.

Haddon Heights accumulated four singles but could not follow up and generate any runs. Gloucester only tallied three hits but made the most of its lone scoring opportunity. Freshman phenom Bailey Schoenfeldt slapped a triple to left field with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kaelyn Zearfoss laced a single up the middle to score Schoenfeldt and put Gloucester just three outs away from victory.
