RICHLAND - The St. Augustine Prep baseball team was searching for its first sweep of the season in the Cape-Atlantic League in its home opener against Mainland.
The Hermits defeated Mainland, 10-7, in the second game of the series, giving the Richland ball club its first series sweep of the young season.
Despite coming out triumphant, the contest was far from a smooth-sailing victory.
St. Augustine took the lead early with a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Arcadia commit Will Childs and an RBI single by Rutgers signee Joey Erace.
Mainland answered back with a two-run single in the third inning by Miami commit Jake Lodgek but still trailed heading to the bottom of the fourth.
The Hermits pulled away further tallying a pair of runs on an error in the field. Mainland then responded by hanging four runs in the top of the fifth inning, including the game-tying two-run single from Quinnipiac commit Chase Camac knotting the contest up at seven runs apiece.
St. Augustine juiced the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth with Joey Peacock coming up to bat. Peacock roped a bases clearing double to right field, putting the Hermits in the driver's seat and giving them a 10-7 lead.
Schalick transfer Ethan Suppi came in for the hold and slammed the door shut on the Mustangs, defusing any chance of a comeback and giving St. Augustine its first sweep of the season over its CAL American Division rival.
