BROOKLAWN - The Gloucester Catholic High School baseball team aimed to keep its perfect record intact as Shore Conference powerhouse Red Bank Catholic traveled to Joe Barth Field to compete in this year’s Thank You Classic.

A pitching battle between Miami (Fla.) commit Tate Derias (Gloucester Catholic) and Navy commit Declan Leary (Red Bank Catholic) drew dozens of Major League Baseball scouts with radar guns to the backstop for the heavyweight matchup.

Derias shined in his third start of the season as the Rams rallied for a 5-3 victory to improve their record to 8-0. The Miami signee pitched 6.2 innings and allowed only two earned runs, zero hits and four walks. He also fanned eight batters in the process.

DeRias has not allowed a hit over his last 15.2 innings. The last time the senior allowed a hit was against the Haverford School (Pa.) on April 4.

He was unfazed by the number of MLB scouts and college coaches in attendance.
