Haddon Township's Nick Burns' performance on the mound led the Hawks past Gloucester, 3-2, at Haddon Township High School in Haddon Township, New Jersey on Tuesday, April, 18, 2023. Chris Baker/D2 Sports Network
The junior threw a complete game allowing 11 hits, two runs, and struck out three batters as Haddon Township held off Gloucester, 3-2, in a Colonial Conference Patriot Division matchup on Tuesday.
His run support was aided by Colton Shaub, Colin Kolbe, and Ryan Schultz who each drove in a run for the Hawks.
Gloucester starting pitcher Chris Ruggieri was also on point on the mound . In six innings of work, he allowed five hits, three runs (two earned), and a walk while fanning six batters. Ruggieri also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and a double including a run batted in.
A much needed win seemed to be a breath of fresh air for Haddon Township coach Nick DelGozzo and his squad.
"This was a good win for us against a good Gloucester team," DelGozzo said. "With the Diamond Classic coming up and and the losing streak we just had, this win was what we needed to get back in a rhythm.
"We were ready. It didn't matter who we faced, we were going to come out and compete against whoever. That's just who we are as a team."
