Sophia Bordi throws perfect game to lead Haddon Heights to back-to-back South Jersey Group 2 titles

HADDON HEIGHTS (N.J.) - There was zero doubt that Haddon Heights ace Sophia Bordi would get the nod with the sectional title on the line.

The No. 1 ranked player in the nation in the Class of 2025 by Legacy & Legends did not disappoint. Bordi twirled a 19-strikeout perfect game when it mattered most as Haddon Heights squeezed past Cinnaminson, 1-0, to capture its second consecutive South Jersey Group 2 title.

"My rise and my curve were what was working the most for me today," Bordi said. "It feels good to avenge a loss from earlier in the season, especially on this stage."

Central Connecticut commit Gracie Granate scored the game's only run. The lefty blooped a fly ball to left field where the shortstop couldn't make the catch. Granate reached second base and an errant throw went out of play to send her home, scoring the first and only run of the game.

"We're always told to keep running until the ball is back in the circle," Granate said. "I just kept on running and when I crossed home I just thought let's go win this game."

Despite there being a small chip on Heights' shoulder coming into this matchup, the message remained the same no matter the opponent.

Go out there and have fun.

"We treat all of our opponents the same," Haddon Heights coach Michelle Hastings said. "Even though we lost to them earlier this year, we cleared our heads and started fresh coming into this game."
